Charlaine Harris: Complete Gunnie Rose series

#1 New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author returns to her version of America where magic is acknowledged but despised.

Charlaine Harris, the bestselling author of the Southern Vampire Sookie Stackhouse series and the supernatural Harper Connelly Mysteries, has returned to bookshelves with her latest novel, All the Dead Shall Weep (Gunnie Rose Book 5). It’s the fifth title in her Gunnie Rose series, which follows a young gunslinger on deadly mission through a version of America where magic is an acknowledged but despised power. Scroll down for info on all the books in the whole Gunnie Rose series.

Set in an alternate version of 1930s America, the Gunnie Rose series mixes the wild west, magic, and Russian influence. Gunslingers help keep the peace in a no longer united country.

“The world of the Gunnie Rose series is complex,” author Harris told the Kill Zone blog. “And I have to be aware of a lot of history when I’m changing it to suit my narrative. America is split into parts following the assassination of Roosevelt, the Spanish Flu, and the collapse of Wall Street. Lizbeth Rose, a gunslinger by trade, lives in Texoma, the poorest of the new countries.”

Harris told The Mary Sue that she wanted to set the story in the 1930s using the attempted assassination of Roosevelt as her catalyst. “If he had died,” Harris told them, “I think all of this might have possibly happened because he was such a unifying force for the United States.”

Charlaine Harris is a New York Times bestselling author who has been writing more than 30 years. She has written multiple series, plus stand-alone novels, short stories, novellas, and graphic novels. Her bestselling Sookie Stackhouse books have appeared in 25 different languages and served as the basis of the HBO series True Blood.

An Easy Death (Gunnie Rose series #1)

From the bestselling author of the Sookie Stackhouse series comes “a gripping, twisty-turny, thrill ride of a read” (Karin Slaughter, New York Times bestselling author) following a young gunslinging mercenary on deadly mission through the American Southwest.

In a fractured United States, a new world where magic is acknowledged but mistrusted, a young gunslinger named Lizbeth Rose takes a job offer from a pair of Russian wizards. Lizbeth Rose has a wildly fearsome reputation but these wizards are desperate. Searching the small border towns near Mexico, they’re trying to locate a low-level magic practitioner believed to be a direct descendant of Grigori Rasputin.

As the trio journey through an altered America—shattered into several countries after the assassination of Franklin Roosevelt and the Great Depression—they’re set on by enemies. It’s clear that a powerful force does not want them to succeed in their mission. Lizbeth Rose has never failed a client, but this job may stretch her to her deadly limits. A Longer Fall (Gunnie Rose series #2)

In this second thrilling installment of the Gunnie Rose series, Lizbeth Rose is hired onto a new crew for a seemingly easy protection job. She is tasked with transporting a crate into Dixie, just about the last part of the former United States of America she wants to visit. But what seemed like a straightforward job turns into a massacre as the crate is stolen. Up against a wall in Dixie, where social norms have stepped back into the last century, Lizbeth has to go undercover with an old friend to retrieve the crate as what’s inside can spark a rebellion, if she can get it back in time.

Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse mysteries and Midnight, Texas trilogy) is at her best here, building the world of this alternate history of the United States, where magic is an acknowledged but despised power.

Reviews:

“The plot is solid and moves swiftly, but logically. This is a quick, but enjoyable read, and a great addition to the series.” (Red Hat Cat Book Blog)

“The plot twists are where this novel really shined. Okay, that and the setting, but that much is obvious at this point, right? The variety of twists was a delight, with some balancing out Rose’s adventure, and others bringing more complications into the mix. It was, dare I say, the perfect balance.” (Quirky Cat’s Fat Stacks)

Felicia is treated like a nonentity at the bedside of the tsar, and at the school she’s seen as a charity case with no magical ability.

But when Felicia is snatched outside the school, the facts of her heritage begin to surface. Felicia turns out to be far more than the Russian-Mexican Lizbeth rescued. As Felicia’s history unravels and her true abilities become known, she becomes under attack from all directions. Only her courage will keep her alive…
