‘Sarah Jane Adventures’ star Anjli Mohindra returns as Rani
Audio adventures from the Doctor Who spin-off due in 2023

Now Big Finish has announced a brand-new set of audio adventures with Sarah Jane Adventures star Anjli Mohindra returning as her series character, Rani. Set 15 years after Sarah Jane Adventures first aired on TV, Rani is now a journalist living in London—but when something otherworldly threatens her beloved city, she steps up to the line of alien defense!
Sarah Janes Adventures was a Doctor Who spin-off starring Elisabeth Sladen, a British actress best known as Sarah Jane Smith, a cast member on Doctor Who 1973-1976, alongside Doctor actors Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. She revisited the role many times over the decades, including appearances on Doctor Who and spin-offs K-9 and Company (1981) and The Sarah Jane Adventures (2007–2011). The Sarah Jane series ended when Sladen died in 2011.
This new project, featuring other characters from the Sarah Jane Adventures series, is a heartwarming opportunity to revisit that world. The first box set from Big Finish, Rani Takes on the World: Beyond Bannerman Road, is due to be released April 2023. The initial project, featuring three audio adventures, will be for sale as both audio downloads and CDs. A second project is already scheduled for December 2023. “There’s something so ingrained in me playing this character that has made it all slide straight into place,” Anjli Mohindra told Big Finish. “I think it’s gorgeous because you feel like Sarah Jane is very much a part of it and of who Rani has become later on in life. They still hold onto the life that they all shared together and the love and respect. ‘What would [Sarah Jane] do in this situation?’ is very much there in the background. I think this is a lovely tribute but also a lovely continuation of her work.”
Anjli Mohindra is a British actress who has worked in a variety of projects. She appeared on Doctor Who as Queen of the Skithra, a species of scorpion-like beings. She has also worked on the political thriller BBC One series Bodyguard; the crime drama ITV series Dark Heart; and the BBC One police procedural television serial Vigil. She also starred in the original ghost story The Dead Room, written by Mark Gatiss (whose TV work includes Doctor Who, Sherlock, and Dracula.)
