The monster family celebrated Thanksgiving in a big way—with a holiday episode, and an appearance at a real-life parade.
Thanksgiving in 1964 was a big deal for The Munsters. First, the family celebrated the U.S. holiday on the show’s episode “Low-Cal Munster,” which aired October 29, 1964. Then on Thanksgiving Day itself, stars Fred Gwynne (who played Herman) and Al Lewis (who played Grandpa) appeared at the 1964 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in costume, riding through the parade in the official Munster’s car.

About the episode
In “Low-Cal Munster,” Herman goes on a diet to fit into his old army uniform for a reunion with his military buddies. Unfortunately, Herman starts his diet just as Thanksgiving is approaching—and a starving Herman bursts into the neighbors’ house and starts gorging on their Thanksgiving dinner.
About the parade
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual parade in New York City presented by the U.S.-based department store chain Macy’s. The Parade first took place in 1924. The three-hour parade, held in Manhattan on Thanksgiving Day, has been televised nationally on NBC since 1953.
