More Werewolf By Night And Elsa Bloodstone from Marvel Comics this fall

This September, Werewolf by Night and Elsa Bloodstone form an unholy alliance in Werewolf by Night #1.

Marvel Comics has announced that Jack Russell (the original Werewolf by Night) and Elsa Bloodstone are back with another howling adventure. Written by Derek Landy and drawn by Fran Galán, Werewolf by Night #1 will reunite the characters in an oversized one-shot. Hitting shelves September 2023, certain sections of this supernatural epic will be presented in black & white, reflecting the pair’s conflicting moods and unique hunting techniques.

In the shadows of black-and-white night, Jack Russell races to halt the sacrifice of a young girl at the hands of monsters. Elsa Bloodstone, in all her colorful monster-hunting glory, isn’t far behind. But can they put aside their differences long enough to save the day? And what would such a partnership even look like?

About Werewolf by Night

Marvel actually has two characters who become a Werewolf by Night. The first one, Jack Russell, debuted in Marvel Spotlight #2 (1972). Russell inherited werewolf-ism (lycanthropy)—during the day, he appears as a man, but when the sun sets and the moon rises, he transforms into a werewolf.

Over the years, he has faced off with mad monks, big-game hunters, a traveling freak show, supernatural creatures, sorcerers, and the criminal Committee who wants to enslave him. He’s also crossed paths with Dracula, Moon Knight, the mutant Sabretooth, Desmund Druid, and the followers of the Darkhold.

The Jack Russell version of Werewolf by Night appeared onscreen in the Werewolf by Night TV special, portrayed by Gael García Bernal. (You can watch that on Disney+.)
