Predator: What’s the future for the sci-fi monster movie series?

The sci-fi/horror/action monster movies came back in a big way—but can they continue?

“Where I’m at with Predator now, is, Oh my God, there are so many exciting things we can do.”

The action sci-fi Predator brand is driven by a warrior alien race that travels through space hunting for worthy prey. And, well, they often end up Earth.  

Created by Jim and John Thomas, the whole story kicked off with 1987’s action flick Predator. Since then, the brand has led to more movies, plus novels, comic books, games—and even crossovers with the Aliens movie series.

What about the future for Predator movies?

As director of the three most recent Predator movies, Dan Trachtenberg has been credited with bringing new life to the Predator brand. But the Predator future came into question when signed a new deal with a rival movie studio. However, Trachtenberg says that won’t stop him from directing another Predator movie…

“I am simultaneously figuring out all of the next steps for the Predator franchise,” Trachtenberg told io9. “Where I’m at with Predator now, is, Oh my God, there are so many exciting things we can do.”
