Celebrating the classic TV show ‘The Munsters’ (with lots of links)

“Spot’s in the kitchen. Why don’t you take him out in the yard and help him bury someone?”

1960’s monster family sitcom The Munsters aired for only two seasons—1964 to 1966—on the CBS network. But in the decades since, the show has continued to reach new fans. The series ended before I was even born, but I have loved it my whole life.

Essentially a satire of American suburban life, the show included a family where its members were wholesome, friendly versions of classic monsters. This included a dad who was one of Frankenstein’s monsters; a mom who was (probably) a vampire; a little boy who was a werewolf; a grandpa that was, well, Count Dracula; and a niece who was the “normal” person that everyone thought of as the family’s oddball. Even the family pet was a fire-breathing dragon.

Despite its short life in broadcast, the show The Munsters exploded once it hit syndication. Over the decades since then, there have been several media reboots, including another show and a few movies. Below, find several links to either watch the original series and to find out more about it.
